Day Five - Dune Buggies in Gozo

You want? Tomorrow I pick you up 15 minutes early, I have a surprise. Who doesn't like a surprise? We said "Sure." However, by the time we all met our driver it was no longer 15 minutes early. So we figured there was no surprise. We got in the van and began our drive to the ferry to Gozo. Soon we made a stop and he said, "we get out here. This is your surprise." This was called Popeye Village. I had read about it so I knew it was a village that had been built for the Popeye movie with Robin Williams. It was then turned into an amusement park; but there had been a recent storm that had damaged some of the set so it was currently closed for renovation. But here it is. Popeye Village.   Popeye Village Popeye Village                            After our photo opportunities we got back in the van and headed to the ferry.  Alex drove our van on to the ferry and away we went for a 25-minute transfer to Gozo.  There was a snack shop on the ferry as well as

Day Four - Sailing (Blue Lagoon/St. Paul's Bay)

Do you remember being 21?  Well we have a 21 year old with us and there is a Casino here.  It really brings back memories of my dad and trips to Nevada when we were growing up.  He loved to play and generally broke even or made enough to pay for our trip and he had a great time playing.  That's how it was last night for our 21-year old.  So 8:15 a.m. came early.  That is when we met Alex who drove us to the Harbor where we boarded our sail boat for the day. Sailing Day We started out at about 9:30 a.m. and using the motor (not the sails yet)  we headed to Comino Island famous for the Blue Lagoon Bay.  I picked these excursions for the trip based on some recommendations from My Bella Vita Travel Agency.  My sister Laura and I had used MBV in 2019 for an ancestry trip to Italy and it was probably the best trip I have ever taken.  So MBV set up the sailing day for us. Little did I know, William loves sailing and has always wanted to be at the helm.  They had planned a sailing trip fo

Day Three - M’dina

It is Friday, May 5th and it’s a beautiful morning.  I caught the sunrise. Dave and I had a Hunter Douglas Business meeting from 9am to 10:30 am, so we grabbed some breakfast before heading to the meeting.  The hotel has a massive breakfast spread with just about everything you could imagine. William and Crystal made it in safely last night.  While we were at our meeting, some of the group headed down to the water to take in the sun. Alex, our driver picked us up at 12:30 pm to take us to M’dina.  Unfortunately my stomach was revolting so the rest of the group went without me and I rested for the day. M’dina is a tiny, medieval city, enclosed in bastions, located on a large hilltop in the center of Malta. It was the old capital city of Malta, and with its narrow streets, few inhabitants and beautiful views over the island, it is truly a magical place to visit behind its fortified walls M’dina’s timeless beauty has been captivating, nobilities throughout its 4000 years of existence.  T

Malta - Day One and Two (Traveling)

The view from my room! Travel began at about 9 a.m. for Dave and I on Wednesday, May 4th.  We started in Grand Junction and flew over to Denver where we met the rest of the family.  We had a few hours in Denver so we checked out the United Club Lounge.  Our flight from Denver to Frankfurt was delayed about 35 minutes; however, as soon as we boarded we were offered a glass of champagne and since I've done no sugar, no caffeine and no alcohol for 12 weeks now, I said "Sure!" A toast! Our plane took off at about 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday and arrived in Frankfurt at about 10:00 a.m. Frankfurt time Thursday.  We were served dinner and breakfast on the plane.  I managed to sleep from 7:00 p.m. to11:00 p.m. uninterrupted so that was good.  That sure made the time go by quickly. Dinner (chicken, potatoes, broccoli) Breakfast (egg, chorizo, fruit) We had a three hour layover in Frankfurt, Germany and we managed to get a game of Solo in.  The Deters' family will be happy to hear
